Good News

Natalie had her appointment yesterday morning. The poor little thing had to have two other tests run on her before we went to see her orthopedic doctor. She was a little traumatized by the time that we had to go this appointment, but we got really good new while we were there.

Natalie no longer has to wear her brace at night. The doctor told us that she is just like every other kid. She can play whatever games she wants. We no longer have to super cautious of what her activities are. The doctor does not want to see her until next year for a follow up. I am sure that we will have to continue follow up appointments for the next couple of years.

The doctor also said that she does not look like she will require surgery when she is four, but it is still not completely out of the question. I will take whatever good news we can get for now. Thanks to everyone who was thinking about her yesterday.

    Awesome! Natalie gives us hope!

    Good! How’s your child doing?

We’re not sure how to gauge her progress. Avery is crawling well and she stands well on her own, although not a lot of weight on her surgery leg sometimes. She can walk with help but has a significant limp.

We see improvement in her mobility every week, but the Dr. didn’t give us any indication how long it would take to get walking again. We go back for her first post-cast checkup March 12.

I’m sorry, you will have to forgive me. My wife probably remembers but we talk to so many people everyday that it is hard to keep track of who has what done.

If I remember correctly your daughter had an open reduction surgery and was placed in a spica cast, correct? Is she already out of the cast?

Natalie pretty much healed while in the cast, but she definitely favored one side after the cast was totally removed. Her legs were fairly stiff and she still often sleeps in the position that she would sleep in while in the cast and in the brace. It’s quite interesting. She no longer favors one side from what I can tell though.
